Jeremy Denk makes his second appearance with the BRSO this season as the featured soloist in the 4th Piano Concerto by Beethoven. Journeys of the Heart opens with Shostakovich’s deceitful optimism and frivolity as he masks the oppression and paranoia of the Stalinist Regime; the tender sentiments of Beethoven that have been compared to Orpheus taming the beasts; and the profound loneliness and suffering of a life left incomplete heard in Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique.
