Porgy and Bess, the great American folk Opera, is George Gershwin’s masterpiece! It opens with “Summertime and the Living Is Easy”, arguably, the most popular lullaby ever written. Porgy and Bess features many styles of music including, Jazz, Blues, Opera, Spirituals, and even an early Rap Song! Come and enjoy this love story about a woman who is hotly pursued by three different me. The action plays out in 1935 Charleston, South Carolina.
The singers and performers will include Southern University faculty and students, as well as students from Southeastern University, LSU, BRCC, and Scotlandville Magnet High School. Members of The Baton Rouge Symphony and Company will be lead by Masetro Pacien Mazzagatti of The New York City Opera.
