RESIDENTIAL FACADE PROGRAMMED LAUNCHED
Contributing to Downtown's Character & Community
Downtown Residential Façade Improvement Grant Program Launched
The Downtown Development District is pleased to announce the Downtown Residential Facade Grant Program. The purpose of the Downtown Residential Façade Improvement Grant Program is to encourage and assist property owners to restore and improve the appearance of their residential properties. Grants are available up to $500.00 per property to be used toward eligible improvements. These grants require a 50% match and do not have to be paid back to the Downtown Development District as long as the property owner meets the general requirements of the program.
Homeowners are encouraged, wherever possible, to make improvements that restore the structure's original character. The Downtown Development District will assist in identifying those features, when requested. Also available, Louisiana Architecture: A Handbook on Styles can be found at here. Careful adherence to the procedures and standards is encouraged. This program is intended to provide both financial and intellectual support, which ultimately will contribute to Downtown's character and community.
All property owners located within the Downtown Development District boundaries are eligible for the grant. Eligible improvements include exterior façade improvements visible from the public right of way. To start the procedure, submit a pre-qualification application to the Downtown Development District including an improvement budget, preliminary sketches and color photographs of the property. Downtown Development District staff will review the Pre-Qualification Application and notify the applicant of their eligibility for the grant. Pre-Qualification Application will then be reviewed by the Design Review Committee. Projects will be judged on the level of enhancement or restoration to the historical character of the neighborhood.
