MATHERNE'S MAKING A MARK
Located in the heart of downtown, Matherne's Market at 440 on Third is the first full service supermarket downtown in over 50 years! Only 9 months after opening its doors, Matherne's has become a real staple in the downtown community. The Matherne family offers a market that provides a variety of services and products, complementing the almost 300 residential units currently under construction in the Central Business District alone. The market features all of the services of a large supermarket, but with a custom urban feel and emphasis on local products. The market offers full service deli & catering trays for office gatherings, sushi bar, salad bar & fresh fruits, gourmet meats and cheeses from around the world, extensive wine collection, liquor and craft beer selections, fresh produce, floral, and greeting cards. Click here to see Matherne's Market in action!
Making its mark on the locals since last January!
We have spoken to many downtown residents and workers who frequent the market multiple times daily; grabbing an affordable breakfast and lunch, or completing their grocery list for week! "I'm in Matherne's at least three times a week; whether it's to pick up something from the salad bar for lunch, sushi on a night I don't feel like cooking, or laundry detergent on Sunday when you've just run out. The Matherne's family and employees are all so friendly too; downtown Baton Rouge really hit the jackpot!" -Courtney Hunt, Downtown Worker & Resident.
Matherne's Market has been a valuable amenity to the downtown neighborhoods (Spanish Town, Beauregard Town, Central Business District, Capitol View North), LSU, and surrounding inner city areas as it is only a short walk, bike ride, or bus ride away.
Visit and support this urban market during its operation hours, Monday- Saturday 7am - 9pm and Sunday 8am - 8pm. Matherne's Market at 440 on Third is located on the bottom floor of the mixed-use development and was recently recognized for best conversion of a former office building to a new supermarket. The development formerly known as the Capital One Building was developed by David Weinstein and Dyke Nelson which also includes 65 residential units, USAgencies' offices, and onsite parking for market patrons off of the 4th Street entrance.
