5 Downtown Awards in 2018!
Fitting 30 year celebration finale!
As the DDD's 30th Anniversary comes to a close, Downtown Baton Rouge has received multiple local and state awards in 2018! The Louisiana Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized two exemplary downtown public spaces, Historic Third Street and the Central Green. The Baton Rouge Growth Coalition and the Associated Builders and Contractors also recognized the recently completed City Hall Plaza. Earlier this year, Davis Rhorer, Executive Director of the DDD, was also recognized for his downtown leadership.
The recognition of DDD's leadership and these public spaces is a direct result of the immense downtown stakeholder support over the past 30 years in the efforts to implement quality downtown public spaces in order to catalyze private investment in the city's core.
City Hall Plaza: (1) 2018 Good Growth Award - Landscape Category. (2) Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Pelican Chapter - Excellence Award. The redesign of this plaza improves accessibility, expands the concert space to both sides of the Crest sculpture and Galvez Stage, and provides a large green lawn and shade trees.
Central Green: 2018 Louisiana Chapter of American Planning Association - Implementation Category. A project of Plan Baton Rouge II, the Central Green boasts over 11 acres of contiguous public greenspace and is comprised of Repentance Park, City Hall Plaza, North Boulevard Town Square, Galvez Plaza, & Riverfront Plaza.
Historic Third Street: 2018 Louisiana Chapter American Planning Award Great Street award. Third Street is truly a collective effort of the City-Parish, DDD, and many private sector investors who have truly made it one of the most diverse streets in the city. This is the only Street in Louisiana to receive the designation!
Davis Rhorer, DDD Executive Director: Center for Planning Excellence - Power of Implementation. Mr. Rhorer has been the Executive Director of the DDD since the organization's formation in 1987. He was recognized by the Center for Planning Excellence for his leadership in the implementation of the Plan Baton Rouge masterplan.
This is an incredible finale to our 30 year celebration and the next phase looks just as bright! New restaurants, businesses, residential developments, and hotels continue to open and an innovative public sculpture dedicated by Baton Rouge Rotary continues the excitement downtown.
As we remain dedicated to the development of Downtown Baton Rouge, we also thank the many public officials, private developers, public agencies, non-profit organizations, and other countless individuals for their support.
