About Dark 30: The bar's name, “Dark 30,” derives from owner Aaron Franklin's days in the Marine Corps, referring to the time of 12:30 am. Franklin’s passion for wine developed during his Marine Corps travels through the vineyards and bars of Pasadena and Napa, California. There, he developed a deep fascination with wine-making and an aspiration to share with others.
"I wanted to create an elegant, fun, and approachable space," Franklin explained. "Wine often carries an intimidating tone, perceived as a drink for the wealthy. My vision for Dark 30 was to dissolve that stereotype and make wine accessible and enjoyable for everyone."

Challenges: Achieving this vision was a challenge; however, his dedication paid off, with Dark 30 thriving in its first year and earning a loyal following. The bar's success is a testament to Franklin and his staff’s commitment to breaking down barriers and making Dark 30 an inclusive and elegant experience in Downtown Baton Rouge.
Dark 30’s offerings extend beyond its impressive drink menu. The bar distributes a regular newsletter to keep customers informed and engaged, and it is set to launch a quarterly wine-tasting club, providing an avenue for wine enthusiasts to deepen their knowledge and enjoyment of wine. Franklin has even more plans in the works, aiming to further enhance wine culture in Downtown Baton Rouge.
Sommelier: A historic achievement highlighted Dark 30's first year, on Feb. 24, 2024, Aaron Franklin received his Court of Master Sommeliers, America certification, making him the first Black Sommelier in Baton Rouge. "It's a moment of immense pride, culture, and a dedicated accomplishment," Franklin noted, reflecting on the significance of his certification.
Future: Franklin’s ultimate goal for Dark 30 goes beyond serving excellent drinks. He wants customers to experience the unique ambiance and feel the love through wine. "I want people to walk in and not only enjoy the flavors and the atmosphere but also leave with a greater appreciation for wine."
Dark 30 is more than a bar; it’s a destination that offers a memorable experience for all who step through its doors. As it grows and innovates, Dark 30 is poised to remain a standout in Baton Rouge's bustling nightlife scene.
