The New River Center Library is now open!
New River Center Library Building Facts and Features:
48,490 sq. ft. total over four floors; dynamic, dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults; will house books, AV materials, and periodicals for all ages; will accommodate 90+ public computers, ten laptops for free computer classes, a number of online public library catalogs, plus free Wi-Fi; Two AWE Early Literacy Workstations for young children; self-checkout stations as well as full service checkout; Public Meeting Rooms include three Conference Rooms and one large Meeting/ Assembly Room; Collaborative Study Rooms; Quiet Reading Room; Maker Space; Teen Technology Lab; Teen Digital Media Studio; Business Pods; Rooftop Terrance; Large Outdoor LED Screen; and Cafe.
The River Center Branch Library welcomes 100,000 patrons every year and has over 127,000 cataloged items. More than 2,000 patrons a month access the free computers. The River Center is the location of the Baton Rouge Room, which houses materials detailing Baton Rouge's history and a Foundation Center Grants Collection with classes and assistance in grants research offered by appointment. The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection consists of publications and supplementary materials providing information on private, community and corporate foundations. Access to Foundation Directory Online and Grants to Individuals Online is available. The collection includes directories, periodicals, annual reports, and FC Search: the Foundation Center's Database on CD-ROM. Guides to government funding are also available for searching. Grant seekers can use this collection at the River Center Branch. To research for funding opportunities or to train on the FC Search disk, schedule an appointment with the Foundation Center Cooperating Collection Coordinator, at (225) 389-4967. The River Center Branch Library is also the location of the Career Center. Funded by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the Career Center provides free services to assist clients in career transition to become their own career managers through self-help with professional guidance.
