Civic leaders launch next phase for revitalizing downtown Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge civic leaders have announced the shortlist of planning firms for Plan Baton Rouge Phase III, a master plan aimed at revitalizing and enhancing downtown Baton Rouge. Sponsored by key community partners, including the City of Baton Rouge, the Downtown Development District, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the plan will focus on design, placemaking, public space activation, commerce, and mobility to shape the future of downtown development. From 23 nationally and internationally acclaimed submissions, Sasaki, SOM, and WXY have been invited to present in mid-December. The selected firm will lead the planning process, set to begin in early January 2025, marking an exciting next chapter for Baton Rouge's urban core.
Community champions, the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge, Downtown Development District, Visit Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge Area Chamber, and Baton Rouge Area Foundation have joined together to sponsor Plan Baton Rouge III, an update to downtown’s master planning efforts. This new, forward-looking plan is expected to focus on placemaking, developing new housing units, enhancing the riverfront, improving infrastructure and connectivity, attracting new restaurants and businesses, and highlighting downtown Baton Rouge’s unique arts and cultural potential.
