The vision of the New River Center Library began in 2004 to demolish the outdated structure and replace it with a new, modern library. Some of the new library's facts and features include: 48,490 sq. ft. total over four floors; dynamic, dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults; AV materials, periodicals and books for all ages, 90+ public computers, ten laptops for free computer classes, a number of online public library catalogs, free Wi-Fi, two AWE Early Literacy Workstations for young children; self-checkout stations as well as full service checkout, public meeting rooms; collaborative study rooms; quiet reading rooms, teen technology lab, teen digital media studio, business pods, rooftop Terrance, Large Outdoor LED Screen, and cafe. A groundbreaking ceremony for the New River Center Library was held in December 2016 and construction is expected to be complete in the beginning of 2018. While the $14.6 million library is under construction, a temporary location for the library's materials is located at 447 Third Street.
