For many years the building was the location of the Fuqua Hardware Co. Henry Fuqua was a Baton Rouge planter, merchant, general manager of the state penitentiary (1916-24) and Governor of Louisiana (1924-26). The building is of valid historical significance due to the importance of the builder/owner.
