440 on THIRD & HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS
Recent development in Downtown Baton Rouge has strengthened its position as a vibrant 24 hour community where people want to live, work, and play. This development, coupled with downtown’s current stability and predictability, have influenced the Matherne family’s decision to open a 15,000 square-foot full service supermarket on the first floor of the former Capital One building at 440 Third St. offering fresh produce, a deli, fine wines and cheeses, and other essentials. Announced at this morning’s monthly Downtown Development District commission meeting, the
developers have renamed the former Capital One building to 440 on Third and indicated construction would begin within the next few weeks. 440 on Third will also include 65 residential 1-2 bedroom units, over 100 parking spaces, and 50,000 square feet of office space. The building will be renovated into an 89-room Holiday Inn Express offering its customers close proximity to North Boulevard Town Square, courthouses, and many restaurants. The additional hotel rooms to the downtown district will bring the total room count to over 900 by the end of 2014. These new developments complement the existing downtown amenities and developments, accelerating the Downtown Baton Rouge movement!
