DOWNTOWN GREENWAY SCHEMATIC PLAN
EPA DOWNTOWN GREENWAY
Last fall, Baton Rouge was one of five cities selected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Greening America’s Capital’s Program to receive assistance in developing a community-driven vision for the 2.75 Downtown Greenway, linking inner city residential neighborhoods and LSU to parks, businesses, and cultural attractions. Through this EPA program, Spackman Mossop & Michaels and Ken Tipton & Associates, were selected to create a schematic design for the Greenway that provides residents and visitors with healthy-lifestyle walking and biking options, as well as incorporates green infrastructure elements that help spark redevelopment in the city’s core.
This spring, the planning process began with the stakeholder charrettes and public meetings that helped create the final plan recently released by EPA. With the official release of the EPA supported Downtown Greenway Plan, the Downtown Development District/City of Baton Rouge will soon request qualifications from consultants interested in the next planning stage that will help to implement this Downtown Greenway plan.
