EPA Bike Share

Share:
In early 2015, Baton Rouge received a U.S. Environmental Protection (EPA) grant through its Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program to investigate the possible creation of a local Bike Share program. Bike Share Programs are available in many other mid-sized and large cities including Boulder, Boise, Chattanooga, Minneapolis, Washington D.C., and Houston, offering locals and visitors the opportunity to rent bikes to recreate and commute around town. EPA staff and experts submitted a report in the fall of 2015 to the city outlining the next steps involved in the implementation of a bike share program similar to other cities across the nation. The report also provides valuable resources and information about how to start and maintain a successful Bike Share program and highlights the challenges and opportunities specific to Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge partners involved in the EPA technical assistance grant include Mayor Holden’s Office, DDD, BRAF, CPEX, BREC, CRPC, CPPC, BRAC, RDA, LSU, Southern University, BCBS of Louisiana Foundation, AARP, Mid City Redevelopment Alliance, and Bike Baton Rouge.
