The Drift: A Fresh Look at Downtown Baton Rouge

The Downtown Development District (DDD) has launched The Drift, a redesigned weekly newsletter that debuted January 8th. This updated publication was designed to keep Downtown residents, visitors and stakeholders informed about downtown events, developments, and opportunities.

For more than 30 years, the DDD has been a driving force in transforming downtown Baton Rouge, guiding two master plans that have attracted over $3 billion in investments. These efforts have given rise to iconic landmarks like Town Square and the Shaw Center for the Arts, as well as new hotels, apartments, and a thriving scene of restaurants and nightlife. Now, with The Drift, subscribers will have an easy way to stay informed about downtown planning, development, and upcoming events.

The newsletter offers a dynamic mix of news, interviews, urban planning insights, and recommendations from the DDD team. It’s poised to become a key platform for sparking community conversations and keeping everyone in the loop on the latest downtown progress.

“We want our stakeholders to be more engaged, and having a newsletter that divulges the most up-to-date information, is engaging, easily digestible, and fun will definitely help us accomplish that,” said Whitney Hoffman Sayal, Executive Director of the DDD.

The Drift was created in collaboration with Throughline, led by Mukul Verma, the former founding editor of Daily Report and past communications director for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. Its design comes courtesy of Carolyn Valentine Blakely of Figurative Design.

Current subscribers to the DDD’s previous newsletter will automatically receive The Drift. New readers can sign up to stay informed and connected with everything happening downtown.
