Baton Rouge Symphony - Ellis Island: The Dream of America
We are going to kick off our 80th anniversary season with a special concert celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. This program is going to feature some American all-stars, from Leonard Bernstein to Samuel Barber. Also featured will be a piano concerto, which is very rarely heard, by the wonderful African American composer Florence Price. The main work on our opening program is Ellis Island: The Dream of America by American composer Peter Boyer.. And this piece will explore the immigrants who were in search of the American dream when coming to the US between 1910 and 1940. It will feature narrators and a huge orchestra onstage – it’s a program not to be missed.
