First Free Sundays
On the first Sunday of each month, downtown Baton Rouge transforms into a hub of cultural exploration with its "First Free Sunday" initiative.
This program offers complimentary admission to several of the city's premier museums and historic sites, inviting residents and visitors alike to delve into Louisiana's rich tapestry of art, history, and science. Participating venues include the Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM), known for its engaging exhibits and planetarium shows; the Capitol Park Museum, which showcases the state's diverse heritage; and the LSU Museum of Art, housing an extensive collection of visual arts. Historic landmarks such as the Old State Capitol and Old Governor's Mansion provide immersive experiences into the state's political past. Additionally, the LSU Center for River Studies offers insights into the Mississippi River's impact on the region.
This monthly event not only makes cultural enrichment accessible to all but also encourages community engagement and education through the arts and history.
