Soo Sunny ParkPark will be installing her piece Spectrum Specter live in LASM’s Iridescence exhibition from Wednesday, September 15 – Friday, September 17.

“Soo Sunny Park is a mixed-media artist who uses boundary materials such as fencing and glass to transform liminal or transitional spaces: inside and outside, sculpture and drawing, vision and perspective. Additionally, Park harnesses light as an artistic material rather than simply an element of viewing. By doing so, she challenges the boundaries of artistic materials and mediums by inviting the viewer to explore the translucent layers of glass, cast shadows, and reflections which ultimately invite the viewer to wonder about the space in and around her work,” states Curator Lexi Adams.

Soo Sunny Park will arrive at LASM on Wednesday, September 15 to begin her installation, called Spectrum Specter, in the Iridescence exhibition. Park’s installation process can be viewed by the public, who are invited to visit the museum and watch the artist working in the second floor of LASM’s Main Gallery. LASM is open from 10 AM – 3 PM from Wednesday – Friday.

After completing her installation of Spectrum Specter, Soo Sunny Park will speak at the opening reception for Iridescence. The reception, which will occur Friday, September 17 from 5:30 PM – 8 PM, will include an artist talk by Soo Sunny Park and a gallery tour by curator Lexi Adams and Dr. Nathan Lord, Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology at LSU and director of the Louisiana State Arthropod Museum (LSAM). Dr. Lord has collaborated with LASM to create the Iridescence exhibition.

This program is a 2021 Ebb & Flow Festival event and is made possible in part by a grant from the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, funded by the East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President and the Metro Council.

Event Price: Included with regular museum pricing
Location: Louisiana Art & Science Museum, South River Road, Baton Rouge, LA, USA
