Jumbo Gumbo @ St. James
Since 1951, St. James Episcopal Church parishioners and Baton Rouge residents alike have gathered together to raise spoons over steaming bowls of gumbo during the start of Lent at the downtown church. Sixty-nine years later, the Lenten fundraiser and family-friendly event will undergo an update to its lineup, shortening the traditional six weeks to a one-day offering. The savory annual tradition will be offered as a lunch and a dinner event, from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 5 -7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6.
Onsite orders are accepted. Call-in orders will be accepted from 8 a.m. - 10 a .m. via (225) 387-5141 on Friday, March 6. Online orders can be placed anytime via www.stjamesgumbo.org, starting Monday, March 2. Orders exceeding five or more quarts and pints are available only for preorder via the website, www.stjamesgumbo.org. Cash, check, and credit payments will be accepted. All event proceeds will benefit Episcopal Church outreach projects.
