The Road to Statehood
Celebrate Louisiana Statehood Day this April 30th! Join the Old Governor's Mansion for an engaging evening exploring the fascinating history of our capital city.
Before Louisiana entered the Union in 1812, Baton Rouge was an Indigenous gathering place, a colonial outpost for the French, Spanish, and British, and even a briefly independent republic. Discover how its strategic spot on the Mississippi River bluff shaped it from a military stronghold into the vibrant political, cultural, and economic center it is today.
The presentation, "Baton Rouge: The Road to Statehood," will be led by Dr. Tasha Whitton, Professor of English and Humanities at BRCC. A reception will immediately follow the talk.
