The Tales of Hoffmann
Opéra Louisiane presents Offenbach’s sensual and captivating opera, The Tales of Hoffmann, on June 24 and 26 at the Baton Rouge River Center Theater. Tenor John Pickle, who last appeared as the heroic Don Jose in Opéra Louisiane’s Carmen, returns to take on the title role of the poet E.T.A. Hoffmann. Mr. Pickle is joined by Cuban soprano Laura León as Hoffmann’s four loves. Local favorite, baritone Dennis Jesse, commands the roles of the four villains. Sung in French with English translation above the stage, The Tales of Hoffmann boasts beautiful melodies that audiences love and recognize. Sets are designed by Wendy Waszut-Barrett and produced by The New Orleans Opera Scenic Studio. The Tales of Hoffmann is a dreamlike story of a poet’s search for illusive love through time. Baton Rouge native Margaret Jumonville, makes her directorial debut at Opéra Louisiane. Opéra Louisiane Artistic Director, Maestro Michael Borowitz, leads the cast and orchestra in this grand performance.
