Visual Arts First Free Sunday - Origins

Join us for First Free Sunday on August 2nd for a raw look at the work's progression. Origins is an immersive performance installation exploring the realities of Louisiana Creole peoples from the 18th–21st centuries, inspired by Alexandra's own family history and experiences as a descendant of this culture.

Alexandra is a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller whose work spans dance, theatre, and visual art, exploring themes of Blackness, queerness, and Southern identity. Originally from Louisiana and a former member of Baton Rouge's Of Moving Colors dance company, she's now an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with work presented from New York to Utah to right here at the Shell Gallery.
