We The People Exhibition Opening Reception

Capitol Park Museum for the opening of We the People, a large-scale, immersive media installation by Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Steven G. Smith. The exhibition presents a living portrait of 21st-century American identity through nearly 200 paired photographs shown across two giant screens, together measuring about 12 feet high and 36 feet wide.

Rather than focusing on major news events, Smith captures everyday life across America, from rural landscapes and city streets to quiet portraits and joyful scenes of people gathering together. His photographs reveal small but powerful moments that reflect what Americans share, even across our differences.

The exhibition also includes American flag–themed objects from the Louisiana State Museum’s collection, adding another layer to questions about identity, patriotism, and national symbols. A special We the LOUISIANA People section will feature photographs submitted by community members, bringing Louisiana voices into the larger national story.

The opening reception is sponsored by the Friends of the Capitol Park Museum and will include drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
